The LTPlus
LTP aim was to generate a highly curated database of all available 16S rRNA gene sequences of type strains of Bacteria and Archaea, as well as to reconstruct the most robust phylogenies using the universal alignment implemented in ARB. Since 2020 the LTP releases (Ludwig et al., 2021) introduced important changes by specially improving the universal alignment to accommodate the new sequences containing insertions, as well to improve the helix structures, and has increased from 42,283 to 98,863 homologous positions.
The LTPlus is a further improvement of the LTP in where, besides the type strain sequences, we have expanded the collection with a selection of the best quality non-type sequences available in public databases until 2025 to generate a small but compact database covering the genealogical diversity known. We also offer a complete and supervised 16S rRNA gene reconstructed phylogenetic tree, as well as an automatized OPU approach to serve as a fast and reliable tool for the assignment of environmental sequences.
Our aim is to regularly improve and update the database. Therefore, the team will acknowledge the help of users notifying some mistakes or gaps that they may find.
